The green eyed monster
What do you think about the discussion to legalize pot in CA? From a purely financial standpoint CA could use the tax revenue and the jails could use the space. Is there a bit of a double standard when it comes to how our laws protect alcohol and prosecute marijuana use?

Just from the articles I've read Alcohol v Cannabis = alcohol is worse for your body, more addictive, causes more anti-social behavior etc.. but, that doesn't mean that pot is in any way without it's bad side effects. Why it is illegal when alcohol appears to be far worse both short term and long term.
Thoughts? Am I way off base?

I see it as more of a personal liberty issue. In general, people should be able to do whatever they want with themselves so long as the rights of others are not infringed. And saving money for the state is a huge bonus. Of course, the whole thing could be moot since Federal laws would still make pot illegal and trump state laws (and that's a whole different states rights issue)
I think the main reason it's still illegal is because it's seen as a gateway drug.
I definitly think this issue is worthy of debate.
There are countries where it's legal. Are they able to use it responsibly?
Oo ... here's another interesting perspective

Okay, I have been checking your blog ALL. DAY. LONG. waiting to hear if you were able to tell the sex of that McNugget!!!!
gotta love a post about ganja weed. :)
i'm with lara, definitely worthy of debate. i remember being in ethiopia and seeing someone casually smoking it (not sure about the legality tho). obviously in jamaica it's used for religious purposes.
i'm DEFINITELY in favor of legalizing it for medicinal reasons. but yeah not well versed enough in the debate to have an opinion on the general legalization of it. reminds me a little of prohibition and how crime etc. escalated...would certain social ills be alleviated by legalizing it? and should that matter?
