5

Is a nice number if you are talking about pairs of hot pink shoes or truffles or birthday cards.  Five is a huge number if you are talking cars or houses.  Five is an overwhelming number if you are talking children.  At least I think so.  In any case I'm about to find out in January.

If you think about it please pray for our baby.  Phillip and I have incompatible blood types and Isaac came out Coombs positive.  Since we don't know Phillip's blood type, we don't know if he is RH + (I'm negative) which can lead to problems with the baby; or if he is A, B, or AB (I'm O) which could lead to a milder reaction.

(The funny thing is that all my kids had jaundice - except Isaac and he was the one most at risk for it.)

I've also had a history of miscarriage which is why we normally keep this kind of news a secret but Phillip kind of let the cat out of the bag (I've never seen the man so excited) and since we haven't had a chance to tell eveyone that we should have told first we didn't want anyone to find out from a friend of a friend and get their feelings hurt.

So, here it is.  Crazy, huh?

  1. this is probably a really dumb and obvious question...but couldn't you have phillip's blood tested to find out the type? would that help at all? :(

    CONGRATS either way! :)

  2. Well, yes we are going to have him typed but since I had decided I was done after having Isaac we didn't really feel it was necessary. Little did I know ...

  3. Wow.... Wow. Congratulations, of course! I am intrigued by this blood-incompatibility thing. After 4 kids, wouldn't you know all that scientific percentage stuff? And will that Coombs issue for Isaac cause problems in the future, or was it only an issue at birth? And Girlfriend, ENOUGH with the winter birthdays!!! :-)

  4. Penny, we didn't know about our incompatibility until we had Isaac and with him the risk was jaundice and anemia with each successive pregnancy the risk is higher. There is a long medical explanation for why it didn't happen before and why it happened with Isaac but .. he's just fine, no future problems. As for the winter birthdays a.) Zak is the only winter birthday in our family, and b.) I DIDN'T FREAKING PLAN ON HAVING MORE KIDS!!! :)

  6. I don't think there are enough comments on here from people w/J names. ;-) But I would like to say WOOHOO!! Kids are fabulous and a blessing whether its 1 or 10. As one of 5, it is an awesome number (and prime!). Even with a 17 yr spread, we're all super close and have a blast when we're together. Almost like a super exclusive club. Or a gang. Although we're not thugs. And we don't have a secret handshake or sign. No tattoos, either, although if you see us all laugh/grin it might as well be a big fat "WE'RE RELATED" but yeah.

  10. Did they give you a shot after you had Isaac? They should also give you the same Rhogam shot now and again after baby is born. Will be praying and...CONGRATULATIONS!! The more the merrier!

  11. Kathrine, they have given me a shot after every pregnancy and miscarriage so I don't know how it happened. There's nothing that can be done about it now though so we're praying that the baby is O neg and then it won't be an issue.
