10 minutes with Mommy

As I handed Eliannah a glass of sparkling water (because for a princess, everything should sparkle) and sat gazing at the beautiful flowers that came from daddy today I looked at her and loved her just a little more.

We talked, we giggled, we switched glasses a few times, commenting on how they matched. We sniffed the roses and placed our favorites in the front of the vase.

A few little moments with my daughter.

My little girl knows that a baby is coming, but she doesn't know that I will love her still. Today she became all the more special to me, because she is my only girl. (But one is MORE than enough!)

The green eyed monster

What do you think about the discussion to legalize pot in CA? From a purely financial standpoint CA could use the tax revenue and the jails could use the space. Is there a bit of a double standard when it comes to how our laws protect alcohol and prosecute marijuana use?

Just from the articles I've read Alcohol v Cannabis = alcohol is worse for your body, more addictive, causes more anti-social behavior etc.. but, that doesn't mean that pot is in any way without it's bad side effects. Why it is illegal when alcohol appears to be far worse both short term and long term.

Thoughts? Am I way off base?

Darn it ...

Eliannah just learned how to burp. I blame it on her brothers. It's kind of funny to see her marching down the stairs in her princess gown yelling, "Attteeeeennnn shun!" and arriving at the bottom only to let one rip.

I've suspected it for a while now just because the law of averages would prevent a person from "accidentally" burping in the middle of family prayer time every night ...

boy v girl

My boys ...
like the smell of their farts
can't tell when they're dirty
consider burping a sport
have no concept of an "indoor" voice
get emotionally attached to the ugliest shirt in their closet and would wear it all the time if you let them

My girl ...
uses too many napkins at every meal
would prefer to wear either dress ups or pajamas all day
uses her shriek as a default defense mechanism
uses sugar as a weapon of manipulation
two words: crocodile tears

I just love my kids! I love the specific ways that they are unique, the specific things that make them a boy or a girl. On Friday, after much procrastinating and waiting and coordinating schedules I am going to have an ultrasound and Phillip will hopefully be there for it!! I'm hoping they will be able to see the gender but I'm not really holding my breath (I'll be 33 weeks by then). At this point the only reason for an ultrasound is to confirm that everything is o.k. We won't get any confirmation of my rather sketchy guess at a due date but who doesn't like a "sneak peak" at the next member of their family?

Too harsh?

Picking God's pocket
you saw us on the news
but we're already dead
those medical supplies
are right next to your bed

your cash didn't reach us
your tears dried too fast
your wallet was uninjured
by our momentary contrast

so go sell your soul to Cable
store those treasures in your closet
start your Heaven in Hawaii
with your 10% deposit

two thousand unreached voices
can you hear the faintest whisper
a million Christian choices
won't you choose to help us Sister?

With full stomachs, overloaded closets and bursting storage units it's amazing that we can plunk ourselves down in our overstuffed chairs and wail at the economic crisis around us (I'm speaking to myself here). In our family we've gotten low on food and peered into an almost empty refrigerator more than once but I can't say we know yet what it means to want. I don't know about you but as long as my bathroom scale indicates overindulgence (pregnancy aside) I can't complain. Missions week at church is coming up. Can't wait to hear what God is doing around the world and what we need to do to participate in the work of the great commission.

(Oh, and I just found out that our church has a missions blog and a college missions blog - who knew?)

That was it!!

You would think that with only 4 Resolutions this year I would be able to keep track of them better. I finally remembered the last one - reading at least one good book a month. I finished "Prodigal God" on January 31st at 11:00pm and decided to do better this month (especially since it was so darn short!). So what's my book? Good question! I read a short novel at the gym but since it took me less than 30 min to read it I don't think it can count.

Right now I am downloading "The Shack" on iTunes for about $5 or $6 and plan to listen to it before jumping in to Pilgrim's Progress since I've heard that there are some similarities. I'v read P.P. about 4 or 5 times but since I haven't looked at it since high school I think it will be valuable to go through again. Anybody read either one? Want to share some thoughts?

Since we are half way though the month this might take me more than 2 weeks. We'll see...

Kanchanaburi,

Well, he made it to Thailand (after 30 hours of travel, and 3 hour of sleep) and had about an hour or two of rest before going out into the jungle to start filming. The area that he is in is pretty rural and gorgeous! So jealous!! I'm glad he is staying someplace nice :) I kind of expected a hut or something. Guess I'm not going to get to call him Feral Phil after all.

Here is what I'm Thankful for:
We are so thankful that he has work
that he made it there safely
that Skype is free and easy to use (we were able to call and talk for a few minutes)
that God has his perfect timing and way of providing
that the kids are asleep and it's not even 9
that tomorrow is a "home day" with nothing planned except for a tiny bit of home school and housework.
that apples and cheese are such a nice snack!

Oh the list goes on :)

Twitterpated

Do you mobile blog?
Do you constantly update your Facebook status?
Do you Twitter?

and if you do ....

Do you think it is voyeurism or involvement?
How much time do you spend on your computer per day?
I facebook .... I blog .... I don't think I can add twitter.
For the average "non work force woman" (i.e. housewife) is any of this a profitable use of time?
What ministry does it allow that couldn't take place with human contact?
Does it bring you closer to people or is it a waste of time?

I read on Wired Magazine that blogging is dead and Twitter is the wave of the future. In some respects I can understand. No one wants to read a long blog post but who blogs in less than 150 characters or less? Sometimes you just have to reach out and touch someone ... right?
