Thankful 3

Thankful 3:

1. A fun classroom party where I'm still getting to know other parents
2. Getting to try out my new colonial cookbook: Corn chowder and Sweet Potato biscuits -- yum!
3. Getting to drive down to Palm Springs to spend time with the Phillip's people.

Thankful 4

1. That we are all mostly over the flu
2. That Phillip was home and could take care of me
3. That a huge living room tent will entertain the kids for hours
4. That the kids are old enough to tidy and do the dishes by themselves (sort of.)

Happy 5!

This year we are starting something new - Mama gets a wish! and here it is:

Eliot, you have grown so much this year. I'm proud of all your hard work this summer memorizing Psalm 1. I'm proud of the way you have grown in your understanding of spiritual matters. I love you so much I hope and pray that you will continue learning about the Lord and using your tongue to praise him. In order to help you do this I have picked for you a special verse and a hymn that we will learn together and focus on this year.

"I will sing to the Lord as long as I live, I will sing praises to my God while have my being.
May my meditations be sweet to Him; I will be glad in the Lord"

- Psalm 104:33,34

and your special hymn is Praise my soul the King of heaven:

1. Praise, my soul, the King of heaven,
to the throne thy tribute bring;
ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven,
evermore God's praises sing.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise the everlasting King.

2. Praise the Lord for grace and favor
to all people in distress;
praise God, still the same as ever,
slow to chide, and swift to bless.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Glorious now God's faithfulness.

3. Fatherlike, God tends and spares us;
well our feeble frame God knows;
motherlike, God gently bears us,
rescues us from all our foes.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Widely yet God's mercy flows.

4. Angels in the heights, adoring,
you behold God face to face;
saints triumphant, now adoring,
gathered in from every race.
Alleluia! Alleluia!
Praise with us the God of grace.

Happy Birthday Eliot! May we learn to seek the Lord and praise Him even when we are tempted to complain.

Happy 8!

a dollar short and a day late
we missed out on 7
we missed out on 8

anniversary breakfast?
toast and honey
nothing but the best for my
Punxsutawney

we've taken turns
being thin and thick
we've had our share
being well and sick

it's been an adventure
it's been awhile
maybe next year we'll celebrate in style!

Sorry sweetie!  I guess life just gets in the way sometimes.  I do love you still!  Let's shoot for something special in 2010 :)

Update

Doctor says : "Clearly he has a broken clavicle"
X-ray says: "The clavicle is totally fine"
Doctor says: "It may be too early for the fracture to show up on the x-ray, come back next week"

Hmmmm ...  the way I figure it, the only way it could be too early to tell if he has a broken bone is if we took an X-ray before he broke it!  However, all the symptoms indicate at least a hairline fracture.  We're going back in on Tuesday for another look.

Part of me feels really ripped off.  I knew he had a fracture, I knew is wasn't severe, I knew there is nothing you can do for a minor clavicle fracture except sling it and ice it (which I was already doing.)  Why the heck did I bother getting a "second opinion?  all I got for my $200 was a little blue sling ... sigh ... next time I'm going to trust my intuition and take the family out for a really nice dinner with all the money I save  :) I told my husband if it doesn't need stitches or antibiotics I'm not going back to the doctor unless I am SURE they can do something that I cannot do at home.

White coat wonderland

White coat #1
On Wednesday I had a doctor's appointment to check on everything.  Apparently the baby is the length of an average banana - not encouraging when I am the size of a baby hippo.  It's always amazing to hear that heartbeat though!

White coat #2
Today my dad goes in for an angiogram.  He had a heart attack 2 years ago and has been doing pretty well since but has had a few weird episodes that they think warrant another peak at his ticker.  It's not a dangerous procedure but they might have to do an angioplasty while they are looking around in there and that always carries a larger risk. I'm praying for you dad!

White coat #3
Yesterday when the boys were messing around Eliot came to me complaining that his shoulder hurt.  Since he is normally over dramatic about any aches and pains I just figured he needed to be cuddled so I held him in my lap and snuggled him thinking that would be the end of it.  By dinner time when he was still complaining even after 20 min with an ice pack I decided to google "broken collarbones".  Right now I'm waiting for the doctor's office to open.  Eliot woke up a couple of times last night in moderate pain and even though they can't do anything but put the arm in a sling I would feel better knowing he's been checked out.  My poor little Eliot!

Edited

So my dearest husband has challenged me lately to hold my tongue. I'm beginning to think he is right. There are a few friends I have tiraded at (not a word, I know) recently without really listening to what they have to say or taking into consideration "the needs of the moment". I've also realized that I've become quiet an opinionated blog commenter and that for really big issues there is nothing I could passionately say in a comment string that would ever sufficiently illustrate my opinion. Besides that, why do I feel so passionately that I am in the right? Perhaps it is time for me to close my mouth around a large piece of humble pie and chew quietly for a moment.

Proverbs 10:19
When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who holds his tongue is wise.
Proverbs 11:12
A man who lacks judgment derides his neighbor, but a man of understanding holds his tongue.
Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.

But:

Psalm 37:30
The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.
Psalm 139:4
Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD.
Proverbs 12:18
Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing.
Psalm 141:3
Set a guard over my mouth, O LORD; keep watch over the door of my lips.

President Elect

"The kings heart is in the hand of the Lord, He directs it like a water course wherever He pleases."

Proverbs 21:1

95%

Yup, that's what they told me at the polls! My vote has a 95% chance of being counted. Phillip's too (we were provisional voters today since our mail in ballots never made it into our greedy little hands). Minor inconvenience but we registered our opinions anyway. Let's hope we both are in the 95% that count!

Halloween to do list

Wake up grumpy
check email and find that my husband missed getting on his flight by 5 minutes and now needs me to pick him up in Santa Barbara instead of SLO
Get the kids ready to drive down to Santa Barbara
Top off the tank and check the oil before heading south
Find a rat's nest made of flamable pine needles and the insulation that lays on top of the engine block
Clear out the rat's nest, get on the freeway
Overheat right before getting to Santa Maria
Pull into In and Out for lunch and then
Let the kids play at Mc Donald's until the engine cools off (90 min)
Call husband and let him know he will need  to get a rental car
Head home with the heater on full blast going 55 on the 101N
Put everyone down for naps
 make brownies
****HUSBAND ARRIVES HOME***** (here is where my mood changes)
Dress everyone up in their costumes
Go to the harvest festival at church
Have a great time!

There's always time to go Trick or Treating!
