Oh, the irony ... did I not just say he was accident prone
Today I am thankful for:
1.) An Urgent Care that was open on Thanksgiving
2.) A friendly and efficient staff at said Urgent Care
3.) That the cut that covers 40% of Eliot's hard palate won't require oral surgery
4.) That the pharmacy was open on Thanksgiving
5.) That God blessed me with peace and a calm exterior when I saw the soft tissue protruding from the cut.
What happened you ask? Eliot and Zak were brushing their teeth in the bathroom. I suspect there was a little horsing around going on as well so when Zak ran out of the bathroom and bumped in to Eliot, Eliot's toothbrush cut the roof of his mouth. I'm also thankful that the toothbrush went up instead of straight back. Sorry for the gore, I am truely very greatful that he is o.k. I am amazed at how quickly we got seen by the doctor, got our perscription and came home (less than 2 hours from the time of the incident!!). Eliot is very excited about the prospect of eating nothing but smoothies, juice and ice cream for the next two days and Zak is just so relieved that Eliot is o.k (so am I).
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Birthday Eliot!
Wow! Four year have just flown by ... Eliot, you are my little imp, my silly one, my creative thinker, my clumsy, accident-prone delight and I don't mind telling the world I love you!
From asking me if we can make pancakes out of clouds to second degree burns from that marshmellow you roasted this summer you have always kept me on my toes. You have grown up so much in the past few months! I'm glad you still have time to snuggle and hug me whenever I ask.
And if any of you are wondering why there are no pictures to accumpany this blog it is because:
1.)Phillip took my computer with him to Korea and it has all my pictures on it
2.) Our camera was stolen when our car was broken into
3.) My brand new camera phone took a wee bit of a bath and will live out its days as an expensive watch since all it can do right now is keep time.
Boo Hoo ... oh, well, the PB&J cake was surprisingly delicious and Eliot was delighted to get something that was so uniquely suited to him! (It was also wayyyyyyyyyyy easier than the train cake we made last year).
We had celebrated a "Friend Birthday" at Chuck E. Cheese (a.k.a kid Vegas) on Saturday and did "Family Birthday" today with Nana, Papa, Tia, Nini and Uncle Chris Eliot needed and recieved all the afirmation, attention and encouragment that a middle child could want and went to bed a very happy 4 year old.

Seven years, seven memories ...
I know you all hate it when people use a blog as a personal love letter to their S.O. so here's the public version of some good memories.
1.) Banquet in the Santa Barbara Botanical gardens. I know it was college but why did we think it was so cool to wear those combat boots? (not pictured)

2.) Second set of engagment photos - (our first set having gone through the laundry)

3.) If I even have to remind you about this day ...

4.)Let it snow!

5.)Come what may ...

6.) Our amazing trip to S.D.

7.)And the most recent portrait of us

I love you Babe. May the next few years we share be filled with love and laughter.

This is why I don't wear sweatshirts ...
"Sir, would you like paper or plastic?"
I heard the voice but ignored it, just like I was ignoring all 3 kids as they played "ring around the shopping cart".
I was trying to talk to the teller about where I could recycle the CFLs I had just purchased (they contain mercury, don't put them in the trashcan when they burn out).
"Sir, ... " the voice said again,
I turned to look at the young man who was bagging my groceries.
"Paper" I said, hoping I hadn't heard him correctly, but from the startled look on his face as we made eye contact I'm sure he originally thought I was a boy. I haven't had that happen since jr hight. I guess with a pony tail, no make-up and a lumpy, shapeless sweatshirt ...

A word about SLOCA
So, in case you didn't know Zak is attending SLOCA this year and since I'm supposed to be writing his first progress report I decided to check out the school's website to make sure I was doing it right. While I was searching for the right template I noticed that somehow a testimonial I wrote made it on the blog (typos and all) so if you want to know what I think about this system of part time school/ part time homeschool, you can read about it here. Or you can check out the link I've added to my sidebar if you are interrested.
What are Funprints?
Funprints are the grafeeti we left on the beach by rolling, skidding, slidding, scooting and scraping our hands, feet and other body parts across the beach. Zak's favorite new game is "mudraces", your imagination can fill in the rest. I had so much to do today and it was so hot (90!) I took an hour to play with the kiddoes. We had so much fun we took half of the beach home with us (it is now at the bottom of our bathtub).
In other news, Eliannah is putting together sentences. Her first real sentence was,"Not doing aything". In response to my question "What are you doing?". She's getting so big!

Christmas Gifts

Zak and Eliot are at the breakfast table singing "I'm not a morning person". I think it is an original song. I'm not appriciating it right now since I've only downed 1 cup of coffee (a rewarmed cup from yesterday).
Last night I made Eliannah's Christmas robe. It is pretty plain so I think I'll spruce it up before I consider it totally finished. Today I go get fabric to make robes for the boys. They loved the ones I made a few years ago and completely wore them out.
Christmas is almost my least favorite time of year right now since this is the breakdown for the Holidays in our house
November 18th - my anniversary
Novemeber 21 - Eiot's birthday
November 22 - Thanksgiving
December 10 - Phillip's birthday
December 18 - My birthday
December 20 - Eliannah's birthday
December 25 - Zak's birthday / Christmas
December 31 - New Year's Eve
The kids end up getting so many gifts this time of year I feel like it is pointless to buy them anything but then I feel like a scrooge. This year I have a Christmas goal of giving them 3 gifts consisting of
1. a handmade gift (robes)
2. a toy
3. a misc. gift
Jesus only got 3 gifts right? The problem with having all our birthdays around Christmas is that the kids are tired of their toys and have outgrown their clothes by the time summer rolls around. A half birthday is difficult because it just seems so disconnected from their real birthday. Sigh ... I've also thought about shifting the December birthdays to January so that it will still feel like it is close to their birthdays. I don't know.
In other news Eliannah can now climb up to the top bunk of the bunk bed. My first clue that she could do this was when I overheard Eliot say to her, "Jump Eliannah, I'll catch you".

Ladies .... a little help!!

So Phillip may be going on a very important business trip in about a week or so and as I was perusing his closet I realized it has been way too long since we've purchased him some nice clothing. I tried looking online at a few places but I don't even know what brand names are good for contemporary business wear. I know the labels my dad wore, I know what labels I would wear had I an unlimited clothing budget but what I'm asking is ... Ladies, how do you dress your spouses? (like, dress shirts, dress pants that don't break the bank). I need so much help!!!!

Salad Supper
In case you missed it tonight's Salad Supper was a hit! Great fellowship, great salad. Here's the recap:
Debbie Weeks taught us that one way we could "Love our neighbor as ourselves" was by reaching out to our military personnel. She said it so much better than I can but the main points were:
Training: we need to "train ourselves" and educate ourselves about the living conditions of our troops. Did you know that they have to put up with (up to) 160degree temperatures in full combat gear? wash their clothes in streams? etc
Truth: we need to bless them with the truth of the Gospel of Jesus.
Thankfulness: we need to let them know that we appreciate them.
After her inspiring speech everyone wrote a thank-you note (over 150!) and each table assembled a care package. By the end of the week we will have sent out 16 care packages! If you missed out on this evening, you can do this by yourself by going to anysoldier.com and following the direction.
Those of you that brought things to send, we had more than enough for our care packages and the excess has been passed along to some people in our congregation that have been sending these packages out for quite some time.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you all for doing this. Please keep our soldiers in your prayers.

A good poem by Rudjard Kipling
IF.....
IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:
If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'
If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!
-- Rudjard Kipling
What a poem!! I'm so inspired, I hope you are too.
